Read About Kobe

I normally won’t do this in a blog post, but after reading this Sports Illustrated article, I think every coach and player needs to read it, too. It’s in SI’s Sports Illustrated article June 22nd edition. The title of the article is “Satisfaction”. It’s an article about the LA Lakers winning the NBA Championship, and a great article for coaches and players to see what the great ones do. I have said many times that the great ones are great for a reason. Check this excerpt from the article talking about Kobe:

“It’s 5:30 in the morning after Game 4. The Lakers have a 3-1 series lead. Bryant is headed to the gym.”

This simple statement says so much. And the article is well worth the cost of the magazine and the time it takes to read about Kobe. The great ones get there because – simply – they are willing and conditioned to do everything it takes to become successful.

No matter what profession you are in, to become great, to become the best, you have to take your preparation to a higher level both physically and mentally!

Read this article and make a copy for your players. Send it to them this summer, as it should motivate them to become even harder workers and deeper thinkers as the summer progresses!

saw the article. This isn’t just about hard work, it’s about commitment. Most work hard but Kobe, along with others at this level, define committed. This lesson transcends basketball and applies to business and life.
